More Server Power!

Hey Gridhosters!

Well, we wanted to give you an idea of what type of servers we use over here at camp Gridhost. Bellow is a short summary of our latest server (or beast) that we’ve just bought for you web hosting pleasure.

The Beast:

2x Intel Xeon 5405 2.0 GHz Quad Core Processors

As you can see, we got some pretty hardcore power behind our web hosting servers. Here’s an insight as to what we do to keep them running smooth.

Only the best will do for us. All our servers make use of 64 Bit Processing Technology, extra RAM and mass redundancy in the form of RAID Hard Disk Control. RAID is a fancy term for, in most cases cloning the data in one drive to another as it gets updated. That means, in the unlikely event of a hardware failure of a drive, we got two more just in case (Thats the same data protection as the new Airbus A380 by the way.)

All our servers make use of Linux distributions, the most flexible and robust operating system on the planet. If it’s good enough for Google, NASA and the White House, it’s good enough for us. All software used is the latest stable release which essentially means that it has been trialed and tested by the developers or firm and is fit for release.

Steps to Commission:

Before any Gridhost Web Hosting Server comes online, it goes through a series of steps to make sure it’s ready for use by our clients.

  1. Hardware peripherals are tested in a commercial environment
  2. Software is updated with latest stable versions
  3. All Server daemons are tweaked to ensure theĀ  best delivery (Apache web server, MySQL etc..)
  4. Server is secured via firewalls, software modifications and general tweaking
  5. Web Hosting test accounts are created as a platform to ready the server
  6. Any final tweaks of modifications are performed
  7. Server tested for web delivery
  8. Server placed into commission

Just about as thorough as a general checkup from your Doctor, but well worth it to make sure that our servers run in peak performance mode all the time.

All servers are monitored 24/7 by our level 3 technicians. We monitor our servers around the clock so you can sleep easy knowing that we have a watchful eye on everything. We monitor using several methods:

  • Remote notification of problems (SMS, Smart-phones)
  • Constant network feeds (Lets us keep track of our entire network 24/7)
  • On site monitoring (Happens in our data centers both nationally and internationally)
  • Future network and hardware developments (Our monitoring software alerts us to potential problems before they happen allowing us to take action quickly and before it becomes a real problem)

There’s a lot more that goes on behind the scenes than most of our customers think. Our technical team really do work hard to ensure that everything runs smoothly without any hiccups.

We like planning things methodically to make sure that your Gridhosting experience is always a good one with our promise of our up-time guarantee always playing a role with everything we do.
